Installing the Rolling Jackass on a Benno Boost Cargo Bike

Put a little grease on the first few threads of all hardware to prevent galling of the threads.

Slip the two M8 bolts through the stock kickstand plate hole with a washer under the head of each, and through the two big holes in the RJ base. Install the M8 nuts finger tight.

Sandwich the Benno chainstays between the two aluminum plates, thicker plate under, thinner on top. Slip the M6 x 60 bolts through both plates and the RJ base, and install the M6 nuts finger tight.

Tighten all four bolts. The M6 bolts take a 5mm hex key and a 10mm wrench and the M8 bolts take a 6mm hex key and a 13mm wrench.

Route the actuation cable housing along the frame, retaining with zip ties or the cable retention device of your choosing, and install the lever on the handlebars. The lever should be installed in a location that allows it to be pulled all the way to the bar, without interference. Enough cable and housing is included to fit most bicycles.

Actuate the stand by pulling on the lever, and pull the bike back and up onto the stand. Take note of the elevation of the rear tire. Ideally, when the bike is on the stand, the tire should be no more than ¾” off the ground. If the tire is too high in this position, it will be difficult to set the bike onto the stand, especially when loaded, and the bike will be less stable when on the stand.

Use the adjustable feet to set the length of the stand legs so that the rear wheel is as close to the ground as possible, while still being lifted off the ground with no load on the bike. Lock the feet in place with the jam nuts (be sure to tighten jam nuts securely to avoid having the feet loosen or fall out while riding). The jam nuts take a 9/16" wrench.

Double check that the cable tension is sufficient to actuate the stand. When the lever is pulled all the way to the handlebars, the feet of the stand should be touching the ground. If not, there is a barrel adjuster on the lever, and one at the base of the stand that will allow you to fine tune the cable tension.

The stand is now ready for use!
