Installing the Rolling Jackass on a Trek Transport Cargo Bike

Put a little grease on the first few threads of all hardware to prevent galling of the threads.

The base of the stand sits just in front of your rear tire, where the two chainstays bend in and meet the monostay. The cables for your rear derailleur and brake (if you're using a disc brake) run through guides in this area. Remove the zipties or clips holding these cables in place and push them to the side so they don't get crushed when you tighten the stand in place.

Place the curved strap clamp over the monostay with two of the M6x55 bolts sticking through it. If you are concerned about scratching the paint on your frame, you can pad this clamp with a strip of rubber, a piece of cloth bar tape, or something similar. Slide the bolts through the two holes in the front end of the aluminum centerstand base, and finger-tighten two of the nuts in place. It's a good idea to put a little bit of grease on the threads of the stainless fasteners.

Hook the two J-hooks over the insides of the chainstays between the front of the rear tire and the back of the monostay. Insert the other two M6x55 bolts through the J-hooks and through the two holes in the back of the centerstand base. Start the other two nuts on the ends of these bolts.

Now, with all four bolts loosely in place, you can tighten everything down while making sure the stand stays square to the frame of your bicycle.

Route the actuation cable housing along the frame, retaining with zip ties, and install the lever on the handlebars. The lever should be installed in a location that allows it to be pulled all the way to the bar, without interference. Enough cable and housing is included to fit most setups.

Actuate the stand by pulling on the lever, and pull the bike back and up onto the stand. Take note of the elevation of the tire which has been lifted off the ground. Too high and it will be difficult to set the bike onto the stand, especially when loaded. Too low, and the bike may be unstable when parking on uneven or soft ground. Aim for about 1/2” by adjusting the threaded feet. Lock the feet in place by tightening the jam nuts against the leg with a 9/16” wrench.

Double check that the cable tension is sufficient to actuate the stand. When the lever is pulled all the way to the handlebars, the feet of the stand should be touching the ground. If not, there is a barrel adjuster on the lever, and one at the base of the stand that will allow you to fine tune the cable tension.

The stand is now ready for use!
